He now holds the record for the longest time in space, totalling 522 days, accumulated during his two shuttle missions and four missions onboard the International Space Station.

Scott has performed three EVA’s (space walks), spending over 18 hours in space!

He has worked on numerous science experiments including growing flowers and vegetables in microgravity.

He has undergone continuous biological testing as part of NASA’s Twins Study, alongside his brother Mark, to help further NASA’s understanding of how future space travellers will cope with the nine month long mission necessary to get to Mars.

He has kept his sense of humour! #Apeinspace

An exciting, worthy, prestigious space career for any astronaut, but let us not overlook the fact that Scott Kelly is an amazing, committed, altruistic individual; putting his own life on hold for lengthy periods, risking future serious, possibly life threatening illness due to the effects of long term microgravity and cosmic radiation; all for the benefit of science and humanity.

NASA salutes him, America salutes him.
Thank you Scott Kelly, from the rest of us!
